Australian Snake Hangs Possum by Head in Restroom
Visitors of a popular campsite in Queensland, Australia, needed to visit the facilities, and they were met with a scene that some would imagine seeing in a scary flick.
When traveller Kaytee walked into the ladies she was greeted by an extraordinary scene that involved a carpet python hanging a possum by its head from the beams of the ceiling.

The sight of the snake dangling from the roof would be enough of a sight to drive a proportionate amount of fear through most folk. However, seeing the impressive reptile dangling with a big rodent from its mouth would have been a different story entirely.
Carpet pythons naturally feed on small mammals, and a meal the size of a possum is big enough to sustain the snake for weeks, if not months. Seeing a hunt play out like this is very rare, as snakes are extremely shy predators and do not typically entertain much of an audience.

How the possum was caught in the first place is not known. Carpet pythons are not known for scavenging, so our best guess is that the possum was ambushed in the roof, but only the snake truly knows.
As the recording visitors moved closer to the scene, the snake did end up dropping its meal. Yes, this would not have happened under different circumstances. However, the incident was playing out in a public facility, and it was inevitable that someone would spot it.

Had this happened at a later point, the interruption may have disturbed the snake’s digestive process, which could have led to health implications for the reptile. So losing the meal was likely one of the best outcomes for the python.
Australia generally has fantastic conservation values and practices, and the python was likely safely relocated to a place where it can continue its hunting ways in peace and away from the crowds.
